Angela Hughes - next show on 29th July

There has been a great response to Angela's work in Fast Friends - here are the details of an event she has in remembrance of our animal friends, to be held on July 29th at 6pm at POP Gallery, 12 Ipswich Road Woolloongabba, with an opening talk by Andrew Bartlett:

This is also an event to remember your own animal friends... Attendees are encouraged to bring along photographs, letters, flowers or any other sentiments to place at the foot of the work.

Digital photographs from Marcel Daniels

Marcel sent me these really carefully observed photographs of his I hadn't seen before - unpeopled, evocative and powerful - the series named The Eloquence of Otherness.

Big plump clouds of paint

Look at these big clouds of paint bursting out of the wall in this line of paintings by Dan Mafe:

Actually a bit difficult to see clearly as its a low res image - but the surface of these other paintings give you an idea of how Dan uses paint to play with spatial qualities:

Work by Jaishree Srinivasan

Jaishree Srinivasan makes wonderfully colourful and decorative ceramic works. They can be viewed and enjoyed on many levels, whether you understand the cultural significance of the symbols used or not. Her pieces have the energy and liveliness of Indian folk art, but function as contemporary art pieces - sometimes as installations as in the 2005 work shown below ...

... and sometimes as objects, as in these earlier teapots with storage boxes.

Pace Project Exhibitions - list of artists participating

There are 3 exhibitions at BIA in 2011 as part of the Pace Project.

The first exhibition opened in March, and was called Drawling - a slow kind of show - and the artists who had work in that exhibition were Peter Biddulph; Kylie Jury; Judith Kentish: Phoebe McDonald; Richard Stride; Sandra Selig & Catherine Brown (with sound by 'Fractions').

The second exhibition Fast Friends will open on July 19, 6-8 pm.  [Be there!]
Artists in this second show are Marcel Daniels; Kim Demuth; Moo Design: Angela Hughes; John Madden; Daniel Mafe; & Jaishree Srinivasan.

The third exhibition will be opening in early November. I have confirmed that Sharon Jewell will show work in the third exhibition ... I had asked Sharon to be part of Drawling, but she was awarded the unmissable opportunity to go to Finland for an Australia Council residency in the first part of the year. Now she's returned and as well as taking part in the third Pace exhibition, Sharon has agreed to present a talk about her experiences in Finland. [Don't miss it!]
